Create a Portrait For Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is one month away.  Why not take your children’s Valentine portraits?  I like to create Valentine’s portraits for the Great Grandparents and Grandparents.  Here is a picture I have taken and it is very simple to do:

valentines.jpg I took this picture in front of our fireplace.  Anywhere is good as long as the background looks pleasing.  I used a rose as a prop that I had around my house.  I also gave her a derby to wear.  We had a lot of fun taking this picture.

Some ideas for this picture…

How To Take Your Children’s Portraits In The Wintertime

The other day, I was thinking of ways to take my kid’s portraits in the winter.  It is hard because when it snows, they are all bundled up.  You can only see their face.  That wouldn’t make a great portrait.  A great picture, but not portrait.  It is also hard because the snow is so bright and most of the time they are squinting for their picture.

Take Your Children’s Portraits With These Great Deals!

One the things you need to take your children’s portraits is a digital camera.  You can basically use any digital camera, but it must be great quality.

Here are some tips:

- Megapixels are important, but nothing to stress over.  A good 5 or higher megapixel is best.

- Zoom, zoom, zoom - Make sure your camera has a good optical zoom.  8x or higher is best.

- Make sure it has a viewfinder and LCD screen.  A viewfinder is important as it helps to focus and concentrate on just your subject.  Some cameras so not come with a viewfinder so make sure the one you are choosing does.

Sign Up For Your Free Chapter For My Photography Ebook!

I have been working for several months on an ebook.  I decided to take it in another direction by making it a multi-media ebook.  In case you don’t know, a multi-media ebook is an experience where you read a little, watch a little and listen a little.  Meaning it is full of text, video and audio.

I am almost finished and will have a Free Chapter available in a week or two.  Then the whole book will be completed in another week or two.  I’m making sure it has all the information you need to start taking your children’s portraits.

Step Out of the Box With Your Pictures/Portraits

So many people stick with the traditional method of taking pictures.  Going to a portrait studio, wearing formal clothes, basically having the same pose.  To me, sometimes that is boring.  I’m not saying all pictures are like these and everyone is doing this.  I’m just saying step out of the box.  Take the pictures yourself.  Do different things.  Talk to your child, let them pick the location, the pose and even the smile - natural or goofy sometimes.

Many people think they can’t take their own children’s portraits.  I say, "Why not?"  What is stopping you?

Take Portraits At Every Stage of Your Children’s Life

When my daughter starting losing her teeth, I wanted to take her pictures.  Then she lost both front teeth and I knew that would be a great photo moment.  So I decided to take her 8 year old portraits with her missing her two front teeth.

This is a great way to remember what stage she is at in her life.  Here are some examples:

Another thing about these pictures are I just took them this morning.  We went outside and it took about 10 minutes to take them.  No rushing to the photographer, no waiting in lines, no paying sitting fees.  Just 5 minutes for her to get dressed, comb her hair and off we were to our backyard.

Take Fall Family or Children’s Portraits

Fall is here!  Now is the perfect time to take your children or family portraits.  In my state, it is so beautiful as the leaves are starting to fall and are changing colors.  We just had our family portraits taken for Christmas.  Take your Christmas pictures early so you don’t feel rushed at Christmas time.  Plus the weather is perfect and your kids will enjoy jumping around in the leaves, or the cornfield, as mine did.  Here are some of our pictures:

Since I couldn’t take the picture myself, I asked my neighbor to come over and take them for me.
